We still have a few days left before Halloween, but I know what’s coming: the fast rush to Christmas. There’s a lot on your to-do’s already, so I wanted to suggest one way to get a few things off your plate:
Buy books for Christmas! If you buy books from Chalice Press, you can get free shipping between now and October 31st using the discount code ADVENT19 for anything over $35. In addition to picking up additional copies of Anxious to Talk about It or Preaching about Racism, you should check out their Advent mailer for other great books. But act fast–the free shipping deal ends October 31st!
Also, while it’s not yet available through Chalice Press, my next book is available for pre-order from Amazon.com! The ABC’s of Diversity: Helping Kids (And Ourselves!) Embrace Our Differences is coming out June 19, 2020, co-authored by Y. Joy Harris-Smith. Below, a pic from my trip to NYC as we neared the end of the writing process:
Joy and I know each other from Princeton Seminary, and we crossed-paths last year at an academic guild meeting. We got to catching up–she got her PhD from Howard University and is a mom to two young kids–and I learned she previously worked as a public school teacher for New York City Public Schools. I’d been thinking about writing a book about helping parents and teachers talk about diversity, and the inspiration came: “Do you want to write a book together?” She said yes, and less than a year later, we have submitted the manuscript to Chalice and look forward to the book’s release in June.
And here’s a sneak-peak at the cover (the subtitle may change to read: Helping Kids (And Ourselves!) Embrace Our Differences, so the cover may adjust a bit):
And as we get closer to launching the book, Joy and I will have a new website (it’s under construction at the moment, but you’ll be able to find it at www.abcsofdiversity.com). We’ll have a few sneak peaks of the book available, as well as additional resources we’ll recommend. We’re looking forward to getting to share this book with you! Here’s another pic from our time together in NYC.
