Joy and I know each other from Princeton Seminary, and we crossed-paths last year at an academic guild meeting. We got to catching up–she got her PhD from Howard University and is a mom to two young kids–and I learned she previously worked as a public school teacher for New York City Public Schools. I’d been thinking about writing a book about helping parents and teachers talk about diversity, and the inspiration came: “Do you want to write a book together?” She said yes, and less than a year later, we have submitted the manuscript to Chalice and look forward to the book’s release in June.
